Four Seasons Resort Seychelles

The Four Seasons Seychelles dramatic position on a steep jungle hillside and a glamorous castaway-chic vibe doesn't disappoint: the 67 villas resemble private residences offering spectacular views of the beach and turquoise sea below.

The villas are huge-each have expansive inside and outdoor space, a wrap-around terrace, outdoor shower and daybeds, plus a private infinity-edged swimming pool. The resort is designed in the style of a village and, if you find yourself staying in a villa far from the beach or restaurants, you will be reliant on a buggy to take you around. As befits a more intimate Four Seasons outpost, there are fewer restaurant options here than at larger resorts around the world. Zez offers a glorious breakfast spread and Mediterranean dishes in the evening, while beachside Kannel serves local and Asian cuisine, including excellent fresh sushi. The spa, located at the top of the hill with spectacular views of Petite Anse, is worth an early evening visit-if only to take in the sunset. Five individual spa pavilions offer treatments that are indigenous to the Seychelles, using local herbs and spices.

The 56 pool villas and pool suites are all low-key, relaxed affairs with their own infinity pools, indoor and outdoor showers, and all the subtle luxury that the Six Senses hotel group is known for. Start your day with a yoga session after breakfast at the Living Room, take a traditional long-boat out to explore the islands and see the wary security guards who keep a constant vigil beneath swifts’ nests. Drop in to the spa for a reviving massage, then watch the sun go down with a cocktail in the bar.

One&Only Cape Town, South Africa

South African hotelier Sol Kerzner's first urban One&Only resort, echoing the size and scale of his other properties in exotic beachside locations, was an ambitious project. And he's pulled it off with aplomb-this exciting new hotel, occupying prime real estate in the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, has magnificent views of Table Mountain, and is already a culinary destination in its own right, bringing trendy Capetonians to dine at its Nobu and Maze outposts.

The hotel is positioned over a series of canals on which there are two man-made islets-one, framed by a large infinity pool, is exclusively for resident guests, the other houses the spa. All 131 rooms are at least 60sq meters in size and either have views of Table Mountain or of the marina. The style here is African-contemporary, the decor is in shades of burnt orange, brown and green and modern African sculptures are dotted throughout. Facilities are second to none, with Nespresso machines, complimentary Wi-Fi and a Bose sound system in every room, plus a 24-hour personal butler. Attention to detail is paramount-pillow choices are plenty, and an aromatherapy menu gives you the option of different essential oils to scent your bed-linen.

Staff are refreshingly friendly, enthusiastic and helpful without the formality and stuffiness found in many luxury hotels. They seem genuinely happy to be working here and part of such an exciting project.

Destination for 2010 - Source Internet Browsing

1. Brazil
Riding on the back of the buildup to two major sporting events – the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016 – Brazil is likely to be on the travel radar in the next year. This holiday destination is about lifestyle, nature and adventure. Visitors love the culture, nightlife and carnival attitude of the Brazilian people. New boutique hotels and eco-lodges are popping up all over the place and from the seductive charms of Rio and gorgeous paradise beaches to exploring the Amazon, Brazil has to be on every traveller’s list.

Brazil, Iguacu Falls

2. United States
Perhaps it’s the Obama effect but it’s no longer politically incorrect to be a fan of the US of A. This vast country has something for everyone, from the spectacular national parks of Utah to fly-drives in the sunshine state of Florida.
Campers in Buckskin Gulch, Paria Canyon, Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, Utah.

3. Iceland

There’s no other way to say it, there has never been a cheaper time to visit Iceland. We don’t like to get excited about other’s misfortunes, but this incredible country is now within reach for many more travellers. 2010 is set to be a good opportunity to see the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, indisputably one of mother-nature’s most spectacular sights. Discover Iceland’s rich natural beauty and literary history or take a city break in Reyjkavik. With prices now at their lowest in years, there really has never been a better time to visit Iceland. rightly colored houses, Reykjavik, Iceland, church in background.

4. Cuba

At long last the US government has formally eased travel and commercial restrictions with Cuba, including access to telecommunications companies. This country rich in rhythm and music is likely to become more and more popular with US visitors. But for now it still retains the edginess of an alternative destination. And travelling independently in Cuba is cheap, with Casa Particulare official homestays from £15 per night per room. Find the best mojito in Havana and dance to the beat in Trinidad before McDonalds arrives!

5. South Africa

Yes, it’s all about the football, and the FIFA World Cup is going to set South Africa alight in 2010. The country has spent a lot of effort and cash on preparing for this event, and it’s going to be an amazing opportunity to enjoy what this spectacular country has to offer. See Table Mountain in Cape Town, go wine touring in Stellenbosch, and see the big five in malaria-free parks. For your beach holiday pleasure the coast of subtropical KwaZulu Natal enjoys 23 degree sea temperatures, so you can swim year around. Blyde River Canyon, Drakensberg,Transvaal, South Africa. Giraffe in the bushveld of Kruger National Park, South Africa.

6. London

London is now more affordable and accessible for visitors from abroad than it has been for a long time, so I’m tipping it will be on many traveller’s lists for 2010. Residents may not notice things have got any cheaper, but the depressed sterling means the United Kingdom capital is no longer one of the world’s most expensive destinations. Star of a multitude of literary and cinematic references, London has the parks, the museums, the shows and the shopping to fill a lifetime of city breaks. River Thames with Westminister Bridge (centre), Houses of Parliament (lower left), London Eye — the largest Ferris Wheel in Europe (centre left), and Waterloo Station (centre right).Sidewalk artists in Trafalgar Square, London.

7. Nepal
How many travellers have long held a desire to experience the world’s best trekking in the legendary kingdom ofNepal? After the political unrest of the past decade the monarchy is no more, but the trekking is, and I predict the number of tourist visitors will return to levels seen in the 1990s within a few years. Even at the height of the troubles the trail to Everest Base Camp was busy so I heartily recommend alternatives in the Khumbu such as the Gokyo Trek. The Annapurna region is changing forever with the building of a new road, but there is still plenty of top-class trekking, including to the Annapurna Sanctuary. Nepal, Annapurnas Region, a suspension footbridge above the Kali Gandaki River.

8. Melbourne
A raft of new airline route launches are set to encourage travellers to start their Australian holiday in Melbourne rather than Sydney. The country’s cultural and events capital, Melbourne, mixes a sophisticated European vibe with that famously laid-back Aussie atmosphere. Enjoy an Italian meal in Lygon Street and make sure to time your visit to coincide with one of Melbourne’s premier sports events.

9. Hong Kong

Travellers often think of Hong Kong as a stopover destination, spending no more than 48 hours in this city of many pleasures. From shining glass towers to tropical foliage on Victoria Peak, get ready to eat, shop and sightsee your way to a standstill. Exchange rates for dollar destinations are now improving, and that is great for travel to countries whose currencies float with the US dollar — another good reason to visit Hong Kong.

10. Kyrgyzstan

This is an off-the-beaten track pick, and I’m only pushing it because I’ve been there and know it’s a once-in-a-lifetime holiday destination. With 93 percent of the country over 1,000 metres, it is not short on spectacular mountain scenery or adventure holiday potential. Kyrgyzstan is the most accessible of the fascinating Central Asian “stans” for tourists, with no visa red tape and direct flights from the UK to the capital Bishkek. A brilliant community tourism scheme makes it easy to meet the real highlight of Kyrgyzstan – the oh so hospitable people. A lone yurt is dwarfed by surrounding peaks in the Dolon pass of a mountain range in Kyrgyzstan.Rocky streambed in the Kyrgyz Range of the Tien Shan, near Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Travel Picks: World's best travel spots

Planning your next holiday for 2010? Here is a list of the world's best travel spots recommended by travel website TripAdvisor (www.tripadvisor.com).

1. Best Destination in the World -- Monaco. Monte-Carlo is home to the celebrated Monte Carlo Casino. This glamorous palace is full of frescoes, sculptures, and features an astonishing gold and marble atrium -- not to mention the main attraction, gambling. Steeped in 700 years of Grimaldi royal history, Monte-Carlo's location is stunning, tucked between French medieval villages and the Alps. Take in a world-class opera or ballet, bask in the sun on Larvotto Beach or get an adrenaline rush at May's Formula 1 Grand Prix.

2. Best Destination in the U.S. -- San Francisco, California. Who cares about a little fog when there's so much to do in San Francisco? By day, explore Fisherman's Wharf and the Aquarium of the Bay, ride a cable car, and stroll around the Presidio; by night, have a fabulous dinner at a Michelin-starred restaurant or a tiny place in Chinatown, then hit some of the best clubs on the West Coast.

3. Best Destination in the World for Beach and Sun: Providenciales, Turks and Caicos. Scuba diving, horseback riding, sunbathing, take your pick. "Provo" offers plenty for the happy couple to do, including picture-perfect coastlines to walk along, hand in hand. The island itself is relatively tranquil; try Malcolm Beach to get even further away from crowds.

4. Best Destination in the U.S. for Beach & Sun -- Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Myrtle Beach is a family-friendly beach destination -- which means in addition to great beaches, there's plenty to do when the kids are sick of making sand castles. Amusement parks, water sports and golf courses are nearby. And family-friendly dining and hotels abound.

5. Best Destination in the World for Culture and Sightseeing -- Florence, Italy. Everyone's heard the Doors of Paradise, the Duomo and Michelangelo's David are captivating, but in Florence, beauty can sneak up on a traveller unexpectedly. You'll duck into a random church to escape the heat only to spend two hours staring at an impossibly pure blue in a fresco. Or you'll consider writing a sonnet about pear gelato. It's just that kind of place. Don't miss the sunset over the Arno and the famous wines of the Chianti region just south of town.

6. Best Destination in the U.S. for Culture & Sightseeing -- Washington, D.C. Make sure you bring cash to Washington, D.C. Not that it's expensive -- actually, many museums are free -- or that no one accepts plastic. It's just an awful lot of fun to hold up a $5 bill next to the actual Lincoln Memorial, or a $20 in front of the White House. In between touring monuments and historical sights, check out the quirky International Spy Museum, watch pandas at the National Zoo, or catch a military band playing an outdoor concert on Capitol Hill.

7. Best Destination in the World for Families -- Marne-la-Vallee, France. Why did Marne-la-Vallee make the list? It's simple: Disneyland Park Paris. Families have flocked here since its opening in 1992. Other Disney attractions include Walt Disney Studios Park and Golf Disneyland. If you need a break from Minnie and Mickey, visit the Sea Life Centre or Val d'Europe Shopping Center.

8. Best Destination in the U.S. for Families -- Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. Shaped by the currents and curves of the Wisconsin River, Wisconsin Dells has been a favorite family vacation destination for more than 150 years. An explosion of indoor water parks has turned the Dells from a summer hot spot to a year-round destination. Kids will enjoy the seemingly endless supply of fun and games, from go-karts to miniature golf, sideshows to thrill rides. If the weather's right, you can take a Duck tour of land and water, and top it all off with a heaping helping of the local fudge.

9. Best Destination in the U.S. and World for Food & Wine -- Napa, California. Napa made three of the lists this year - it might just be the world's most perfect spot for a weekend getaway. What more do you really need than romantic inns, great food and wine and relaxing spas?

10. Best Destination in the U.S. and World for Nightlife -- New Orleans, Louisiana. While parts of the city still are rebuilding the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans welcomes travelers and pulls out all the stops to show them a good time. And it's not merely Southern hospitality -- tourism funds help make rebuilding possible. So take a tour of the elegant Garden District, hit a jazz club, dine at the Commander's Palace, or join the crowds on Bourbon Street - you'll have a fine time, and you can feel good about every dollar you spend.

11. Best Destination in the World for Outdoor and Adventure -- Queenstown, New Zealand. Staggering beauty and heart-pumping thrilss await in the resort town of Queenstown, which is also known for its Hobbits -- much of the Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed in the area. Outdoor enthusiasts flock to Queenstown for kayaking, bungee jumping, jetboating, white-water rafting, hiking and skiing. More mild-mannered adventurers can take a quiet cruise through nearby Milford Sound, part of the Fjordland National Park World Heritage area or sample South Island pinot noir from one of the region's 75 wineries.

12. Best Destination in the U.S. for Outdoor and Adventure -- Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. This gorgeous, high-altitude National Park straddles the Continental Divide -- which means there are two distinct climate patterns here. Visitors enjoy prime rock-climbing, hiking and biking trails, and plenty of camping options. If you're after a more educational outdoor experience, take one of the Rocky Mountain Nature Association Field Seminars.

13. Best Destination in the U.S. and World for Relaxation and Spa -- Sedona, Arizona. Anyplace can have an amazing pool and spa, but an amazing pool and spa in the middle of a gorgeous desert? That's what you'll find at Sedona's resorts. If you do feel like taking a break from lounging poolside and sampling different kinds of massages, you'll find miles of trails for hiking, biking and horseback tours. Afterward, of course, you'll need another massage. It's the good kind of vicious cycle.

14. Best Destination in the World for Romance -- Oia, Greece. Oia is carved out of the cliffs, and visitors can see houses built for Venetian sea captains as well as the more typical "cave houses" of the villagers. You'll find the pure white buildings with colorful roofs that are typical of Greek architecture, and you'll probably enjoy poking around the town. But don't breeze through in an hour -- you must stay for the sunset. It's legendary. Watch from a cafe, or, better yet, from a boat -- you'll be spellbound.

15. Best Destination in the U.S. for Romance -- Napa, California. It's no wonder Napa made three of our lists this year - it might just be the world's most perfect spot for a weekend getaway. What more do you really need than romantic inns, great food and wine, and relaxing spas?

16. Best Emerging Destination in the World -- Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. South of Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the Austrian border lies Germany's highest mountain, Zugspitze, rising nearly 10,000 feet and offering gorgeous glacier-top skiing. The towns of Garmisch and Partenkirchen used to be separate, but were merged for the 1936 Winter Olympics. With almost 75 miles of downhill runs of all difficulty levels, Zugspitze also has 68 miles of cross-country trails, a terrain park and Germany's first superpipe.

The beaches are stunning stretches of white sand, great for sunning, windsurfing and diving. The culture and architecture are just as colorful as the waters of the bright blue sea. Stroll around downtown for a truly quaint afternoon activity.
